Sir Christopher Wrens House Hotel & Spa team run for the Duke

A team of runners from the Sir Christopher Wren’s House Hotel and Spa in Windsor took part in the Windsor Half Marathon on Sunday 27th September to raise funds for the DofE, a leading UK youth development charity.

The hotel’s General Manager and his team took on the testing 13.2 mile course for the second time this year. The weather on the day was exceptional for the time of year, topping 26 degrees, which made the day pleasant for spectators but even more challenging for the team of runners. Not only did all the runners complete in less than three hours, but they also collectively raised £2,455 in sponsorship from friends, family and suppliers to help young people achieve their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. 

Mathew Griffin, General Manager of the Sir Christopher Wren’s House Hotel said,

“It was great to again support The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award with a team from the hotel running the Windsor Half Marathon. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is the hotel’s dedicated charity partner, and although the race was tough for our five runners in the late summer heat, it was worth it to support the great work they do as a leading youth charity. Also despite the difficult financial climate many of our friends, suppliers and corporate partners have been very generous and I would like to thank them all for their support, as we actually exceeded the total in 2008 by raising £2455.”

The hotel gave the DofE the opportunity to share their hospitality tent on the day of the race to raise the charity’s profile in the local community.

The hotel has been supporting the DofE for three years and the half marathon is just one of their fundraising initiatives. The hotel also adds a discretionary £1 to each bill in Strok’s Restaurant, donates prizes for their events and has donated rooms in their newly built conference facility.
